Ricky Linquist, owner/operator of Linquist
Farms, was born and raised in Sac County, Iowa.
Early in life, he had an interest in showing cattle
at the Sac County and Iowa State Fairs. He began
farming in the 1970’s and currently farms
in excess of 1000 acres.
In the fall of 2000, Ricky began focusing on the
breeding and raising of Gelbvieh and Red Angus cattle.
His first Gelbviehs were purchased from the Leachman
Cattle Company of Billings, Montana, followed by
the purchase of several pure bred cows with heifer
calves at side from Sky Blue Gelbvieh of Kansas.
At the 2003 Iowa Beef Expo, a bred
heifer was purchased that produced an excellent
bull calf which became the Reserve Champion Gelbvieh
at the 2003 Clay County Fair.

At the 2003 World Gelbvieh Conference
Genetics on Ice Sale, Linquist Farms purchased embryos
from the mating of BTI Lady Granite 2001E x ELK
CK Bronco 411G. From these embryos came an impressive
set of twin heifer calves, one of which placed second
in her class at the 2004 Clay County Fair. This
heifer shows really well, often placing in her division
in other cattle shows.
Also in 2003 several significant purchases were
made: a set of embryos from Judd Ranch; a flush
of BETZ Magic Muffin; a set of embryos from Sea-J
Farms; and a cow with heifer calf also with embryos
from Duane Worstell of Rolling Acres Gelbvieh. The
fall of 2004 added the purchase of two top selling
cows at Sea-J Farms sale, which further improved
and strengthened Linquist Farms herd.

In 2004, awards were given
to a Reserve Champion heifer calf and to a bull calf
at the Clay County Fair; a class winner with bull
calf at the Iowa State Fair and at the American Royal
Livestock Show.
The first Red Angus cattle, two cows with heifer calves
at side, were purchased in April, 2001 from Changing
Oaks Farms, followed by a bred heifer from Leachman
Cattle Company. Two bred heifers from Ludvigson Stock
Farm were purchased at their September, 2003 sale.
The remainder of Linquist Farms Red Angus herd is
comprised of top-quality cows resulting from embryo
purchases and AI.
The goal of Linquist Farms is to sell its customers
high quality Gelbvieh and Red Angus replacement heifers
and bulls.
